Download

How do I download files?
At MegaFile the user can only download files when he has its unique link. After the user opened the link with his browser, the user gets to see the page to download the requested file. Now select - depending on the state of the users account type - either "Free" or "Premium". The user selects "Free" when he does not have a premium account as well as no other account at MegaFile. In case the user opens a link and does have a premium account, depending on the users account setting there will be either a direct start of the download or the files page with the download details and a button for "Premium download"-ing the file.

How often can I download files?
In theorie the user can basically download as many files as he wants. In praxis there are some limitations though. As unregistered user of MegaFile's service the user can currently download one file every 1 minutes, in case the download of a file might take longer than 1 minutes, the user can start an other download when there was at least 1 minutes past after the start of the previous download. As free signed up user of MegaFile's service the user can currently download an unlimited amount of files simultaneously. As premium User of MegaFile's service the user can currently download an unlimited amount of files simultaneously.

What does download-traffic mean?
The download-traffic does represent the amount of bytes MegaFile has sent to the user through out the current day, calculated in a 24 hours cycle. As unregistered user of MegaFile's service the user can currently download up to 5 GB with high-speed each day, after reaching the limit the users bandwidth will get reduced to a few KB/s. As free signed up user of MegaFile's service the user can currently download up to 25 GB with high-speed each day, after reaching the limit the users bandwidth will get capped to 512 KB/s. As premium User of MegaFile's service the user can currently download up to 100 GB with high-speed each day, after reaching the limit the users bandwidth will get capped to 1024 KB/s.

The file I want do download does not exist no longer?
When the requested file does not exist no more, one of the following scenarios has been happening:
  • The unique link for the requested file is not correct.
  • The user who uploaded the file, has deleted it or limited its access.
  • The file has been violating MegaFile's upload rules and had to get deleted by MegaFiles Abuse-Team.
  • In rare cases it can also be happening that the host-server of the file does not answer due to exhausting or any other failures.
I get asked for a password before downloading a file?
The user will get asked for a password, when the files uploader did share its link with others, but does not want that unauthprized persons get access to it. In this case the uploader has secured the file with an additional password in order to the point that only these people can download the file that also know about its password.

Why do I get redirected instead of a starting download?
When the user get redirected to an error page even though he sees the state being "Download starting..." first, then it is because the hoster of the file does initialize this redirect. The user gets redirected to a page that tells him what exact error has occured. In most cases it would be one of the following listed errors:
  • 402 - The file is larger than the maximum downloadable filesize limit the current user has.
  • 403 - There is not enough free traffic left to start the download.
  • 404 - The requested file was not found.
  • 405 - The host has not recieved a valid download ticket and/or file password in order to check for the requested file.
  • 406 - The download ticket that has been sent to the host was not valid or has expired.
  • 407 - The requested file does not exist out of sudden. This is a rare case which takes place when the uploader of the requested file has deleted the file right after the link to it has been opened but still before the download did start.
  • 408 - The IP-address trying to start the download is (still) being blocked. This is a rare case as well, which takes place when the use got signed with an already blocked IP-address by the internet service provider. The IP-address is being blocked because its free traffic has been exhausted. Usually the solution is to ask the internet service provider for a new IP-address. In the worst case the user has to wait a maximum of 24 hours until the IP-address is not being blocked any longer.
  • 409 - The password that was transmitted to MegaFile's host is wrong (in case it is needed).

Upload

How do I upload files?
At MegaFile the user can only upload files after he signed up and created his own account, activated his account by confirming his email-address and is also logged into his account. When the user now clicks on the "Upload" button at the top right the user will get directed to the upload-page. With another click on "Select files" there will be opening a new window. This window the user navigates, as you do it in the usual explorer, into the folder at where the files he wants to upload are located in. After the user has selected all the files, he clicks on "Open". Now all the files get listed within the upload-formular. Click now on "Start upload". The users files are now being uploaded. After a file successfully got uploaded, the user will see its download-link or current state in the browsers window. After all uploads have finished click on "Filemanager" at the top right, there the user can look over all his uploaded files, download it, edit its setting, share it, etc.

How does MegaFile store uploaded files?
MegaFile stores the files -as they are-, but in addition theoretically useless, as they do not have a filename and a random generated key as filetype. The files are getting stored in fileserver that are not directly accessible from the internet! Only with the download of the files first, the files will get set back in its original properties. In order the user can access and is able download the files in the end, requested files will get streamed directly from the fileservers to the user by our download-servers. Without any caching the informations are continuing further to the requester. This is working "on-the-run" as you might want to say. But please, no worries, the requested file will always and instantly be ready do download upon its request, no matter of what size it has!

What do I have to take care of when uploading?
Generally the user have to take care of:
  • That the files does not violate our upload rules (Link).
  • That files, that are not intended to be publicly accessible are being set to private and in certain circumstances also secured with a password on top.
Free-user have to take care about the following:
  • The user currently can upload 1 file(s) at once.
  • The traffic from uploading files will not get counted on top of the traffic.
  • The maxmium uploadable filesize is being capped at 1000 MB at the moment.
  • The maximum upload speed is unlimited.
Premium-user have to take care of the following:
  • The user currently can upload 500 file(s) at once.
  • The traffic from uploading files will not get counted on top of the traffic.
  • The maxmium uploadable filesize is being capped at 40000 MB at the moment.
  • The maximum upload speed is unlimited.
My file could not being uploaded successfully?
After a file got uploaded successfully, it gets processed by our hoster. Is this process done the user will see the download link this file has "File.xy has been uploaded successfully", in case any thing else will get displayed it has to be something as followed:
  • As free user the file needed more traffic than the user had left. Currently this can has happened, because the upload-traffic does get counted.
  • As premium user the file needed more traffic than the user had left. Currently this can has happened, because the upload-traffic does get counted.
  • The user does not have enough storage space left to use, in this case the user would need to expand his contingent (Link) or the user does free up some space before uploading.
  • The maximum uploadable filesize got exceeded, in this case the user would need to expand his maximum uploadable filesize limit (Link) or the user splits the file into multiple parts before uploading by MegaFile.

Filemanager

What is the filemanager?
The filemanager is offering the user a comfortable method to handle all the uploaded files, as well as to create and manage folders. This is alot easier than it is to manage alot of files just by one self (since there will basically be just a link to something). The filemanager is build up similar to the Windows Explorer.

What are the things I can do with the filemanager?
As the name does say it the user can take care of and handle his files with it. All of the users uploaded files (as long as the user wants it to) will get to be located in the users root-folder. Besides the root-folder the user can create as many folders and sub-folders as he wants. With the possibility of creating folders the user can bring in an individual touch when it comes to ordering files. Besides the folders and the moving of its containing files the user has a way to manage his files, as he can set them secured by a password, rename them, setting up the accessibility, removing them, etc. The user can mark and edit as many files as he wants, as to move them in a single folder or to remove them while being located in different folder. In addition all links to selected files will be shown listed underneath. And there are many things more.
